STARR #33 - Having Authority While In Liquid State

Even when you don't know who you are, you still have power.

Note: I turned on the ‘transcript’ option that you can find on a button at the top of the page.

The cult of personality of modern civilization is at odds with the opportunity to enter (and maybe mostly live!) in liquid state.

This STARR explores the distinction between using your personality’s reference points to navigate life versus the powers that comes from authentic authority.

The fear of ‘losing yourself’ into someone else’s world, ideas, and possibilities when in a liquid state is common. It makes sense considering that what we have been trained is to give our center away to a way of life so far away from the longings of our beings.

You may remember the moment you had to leave the magical world behind to enter ‘real life’ the ‘adults’ told you about. Whether it was when you were five and sent to school, or maybe even early than that, seeing your parents worry and fight over money, time, love. You have a memory of losing yourself to fit into someone else’s world. But you were a child then, and now you are an adult.

As an adult, you have an endoskeleton capable of Authority. As such you have choice to use your Authority as the reference point for navigating the groundless nature of the universe (Pema Chödrön). Your Authority would then replace your Box’s reference points that you have been using to keep yourself safe.

Instead of thinking that you are tough, or weak, sensitive or stupid, intelligent or slow… Instead of looking outside of yourself to decide if you are loved or hated, or if you are enough or mediocre, or if you should be more… Instead of relying on a positionality, or a certainty that things should be this way, or that you have to conform to an external idea…

The proposal is to build the muscles of your Authority.

So that even when your Box goes into a liquid state and you lose your positionality, you still have power to choose, ask, declare, hold and navigate space, improvise, shift identity, be with, etc… You can take care of yourself even when you do not know who you are. But more than that, you may discover that you have much more freedom of movement to create than when identified with a solid version of yourself!
